Drag Pageant Microsite Web Design Volunteering

Challenge

For the first time in their 33-year history the Dupont Social Club asked to create a website to promote their 2021 amateur drag pageant to ensure that the message could be spread quickly in a just-leaving-the-pandemic world.

Rationale

Adapting the print and early promotional design to a fully-fledged, one-page, responsive promotional microsite took some creativity. Additionally, as a personal challenge, I strove to ensure that there were no known accessibility issues with the site and that it included microdata for SEO and social sharing. As an added challenge, the organizers wanted to be fair to the contestants, so the order was randomized on each load of the page.

Critique

For a volunteer effort done on relatively short timelines and involving coordination with dozens of other volunteers, I think it is great. With all the time in the world and all the information immediately available, I perhaps might have made some differnt choices but times like that are rare in this world.
